Market Snapshot: Nasdaq leads U.S. stock indexes to higher close after strong retail sales

U.S. stock indexes ended higher Tuesday, after a stronger-than-expected rise in October retail sales and as investors digested results from major retailers.

How did stock indexes perform?

On Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite each had ended fractionally lower. The Russell 2000 RUT index saw a steeper loss of 0.5%.
