Putin’s war reaches its first anniversary, a year when Ukraine has performed surprisingly well against a supposedly greater enemy. Over the winter months, the battle has become bogged down. Russia has focussed on hitting Ukraine’s electrical grid, while the Russian forces have been engaged in artillery battles in the eastern region of the Donbas near the town of Bakhmut.By all accounts, Russia is gearing up for a significant spring offensive that could be decisive. Ukraine has had until now an advantage in the workforce; however, this may be changing as the Kremlin has mobilized 200,000-300,000 soldiers and may soon order more conscripts into the battle. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has argued for months that western tanks would be a game-changer in achieving victory. After much diplomacy and mounting pressure on Berlin, Germany says that Berlin will send Leopard 2 tanks. Could this be the solution for Ukraine?
